The snow is melting rapidly and the high country is opening up nicely for mountain biking. The Shady Rest and Knolls area are in prime condition for some fun hill climbing and sneaky single track descents. Snowmelt is keeping the dust down and the traction up. Meanwhile the combination of empty roads and moderate weather conditions are making for some of the best road riding in the country. The shoulder seasons of spring and fall equal low volume traffic both around town and especially on the backcountry roads. If you like to ride for hours without seeing a car this is time and Mammoth is the place.
Any idea when the bike park will open??
Posted by: Andrea,9:59 am,May 20th, 2008The dirt has been exceptional…tacky and fast. The Knolls loop and Shady Rest are well documented at this point so I took a recon ride out toward the Inyo Craters a couple days ago. Still a lot of snow patches on the northern aspects, some negotiable some not. Where there was dirt it was as good as it ever gets around here but we still need some warm, consistent weather. Down toward Mammoth and Sherwin Creek the riding is really good.
Posted by: Footloose,4:11 pm,May 28th, 2008I skied on Memorial day and was incredulous at the amount of snow that had accumulated. We were skiing knee deep, quality powder! A great way to cap off the season…or so I thought. Seems like Ullr wants more so Mammoth will extend the season for one more week. Looking at the higher elevations it could easily be February with the snowfall form the last week and a half.
MAMMOTH ROCK TRAIL IS OPEN AND RIPABLE TOO.
