The 4th of July is here and the weather in Mammoth could not be better. I rode the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park all day yesterday and the trails are in great shape. There is still a bit of snow on some trails up high or in the shade, but over all, the riding is phenomenal. As an added bonus the lakes are warming up just enough to go for a nice refreshing swim after a long dusty day hiking or biking the trails. Life in the mountains doesn’t get much better than this.
I’ve been doing recon rides outside the park-out towards the Inyo Craters. The riding is really good throughout the Knolls Loop and off the Scenic Loop back into the lower reaches of Dry Creek. The Power Station Road is clear and good riding for the return trip back to town. The section of Mountain View between the Power station and the Mountain access road coming out from chair 2 is sweet as is the section from the Power Station road to the Earthquake Fault (technically a fissure). There are some sand [pumice] traps here and there but for the most part the dirt is good.
