Best conditions in years….

December 26th, 2008

After a week of snowy and windy weather – we have been left with some of the best conditions we have seen in years – over 5 feet of new snow and a week of sunny skies forecast. When the mountain has finished digging out by the end of today – they anticipate every run and lift will be in full operation. Our advice to beat the crowds – Be the first on the hill at 8.30 a.m., early lunch at 11, and head down by 3p.m. Or spend an extra 20 mintues in the car and head over to June Mountain away from the crowds. Still plenty of great powder skiing to be had. Even in the worst of conditions on Xmas Day – a lot of our employees skied or boarded and had a blast!!

Happy Holidays from the Footloose Crew

December 24th, 2008

Happy Holidays from the crew at Footloose Sports.  We hope everyone has a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.  If you are one of the lucky folks to be in Mammoth over the holidays, it looks like there will be lots of reasons to be thankful over the holidays.  It is currently snowing and the conditions are superb.  It has been cold and snowy for the last 7-10 days and the skiing conditons just get better and better.  If you weren’t able to make it up we hope you are able to spend time with your family and friends because that is what the holidays are really about.  It looks like we are setting up for a great snow year.

Happy Holidays,

The Footloose Crew

Weekend Weather…

December 18th, 2008

If you are planning on coming up this weekend – you should be in for some clear skies, light winds and continued cold temps.. the Night of Lights should be spectacular – but dress warmly. The skiing has been great – soft powdery conditions with some obstacles still showing up – so be careful.. Our last snowfall was just enough to cover up things…But it did enable all of the mountain to open up for the Xmas holiday. Next chance of significant snow ??  Coming in Sunday night and staying through the mid week – we hope to have a 100 inch base by the end of the year…

It’s dumping!!

December 15th, 2008

Good news.  After 2 feet of wind over the weekend this storm is finally settling in and giving us some measurable amount of snow.  We got about 18 inches of snow on the mountain over the weekend but with the high winds the conditions were variable with scoured spots and some good stashes.  The winds calmed down Sunday night and the snow started falling more heavily around midnight.  This morning at 8 a.m. there was a foot of incredibly light snow in my driveway in the ghetto.  In the last 3 hours we have gotten at least another 6-10 inches in the Footloose parking lot.  Perfect timing for getting the rest of the mountain open.  The holidays are around the corner and it’s looking like it’s going to be a great time to spend with family and friends in Mammoth.  Overall, the weather forecasters are expecting around 40+ inches from this storm with continued instability throughout the week.  We will try to keep you updated on weather and snow conditions further on in the week.

Major weather change on the way……

December 12th, 2008

According to the weather gurus… winter is finally arriving !! Although we are expecting some gusty winds through Saturday afternoon, the temparatures will drop down into the teens allowing for a final blast of snowmaking before a winter storm showing some promise will blow in on Sunday. We are hoping for 2 feet up on the higher elevations – this will allow Canyon Lodge and June Mountain to open in time for next weekend – December 19th… The snowmaking crew have been doing excellent job with the cold temps lately but the natural snowfall will defintely get us back to where we should be..plan  on coming this weekend or mid week to take advantage of it before the crowds show up. We will give you a first hand skiing report next week.
