Great Conditions

January 27th, 2009

Well we finally just had the first real storm of ‘09.  It started raining in town on Thursday and continued to rain/snow throughout the weekend and into Monday.  Temperatures were pretty warm to start but continued to get colder day by day.  Classic sierra cement.  This was the type of storm we are more likely to get in November instead of January.  The good thing is it got cold Saturday night and the wind started to work its magic.  Sunday it snowed and blowed all day and the snow started to dry out and become lighter.  Monday was partially cloudy with a few snow flurries, but conditions were clear enough to get the whole mountain open by the early afternoon.  If you weren’t here, you really missed a couple of epic powder days.  Good news is this type of storm really sets us up for the next couple of months.  Coverage is excellent and the heavy snow has covered up the majority of remaining early season obstacles.  I believe the snow totals over the weekend are around 4+ feet.  Come on up if you have the chance.  Conditions don’t get much better than right now.  I will try to post some pics later in the week.

Awesome Skiing but no one is here???

January 17th, 2009

We have some of the best skiing available right now in the country but the slopes are empty – Probably a sign of the economy but for all of the season pass holders out there who can experience unlimited skiing – now is the time to plan your trip. The best skiing of the day is between 9.30 until around 3.30 – with the sun as low as it is in the winter, only the southern exposures are seeing any warm up in the afternoons. This is the type of snow that makes anyone look good!! We are already out testing skis for next year and we will post some feedback here shortly. In the meantime – sunny skis, great skiing and not much of a change until the middle of next week..

Is it Spring??

January 8th, 2009

The weather has been incredible all week and the forecast is calling for continued warm temps and sunny skies. The mountain is in full operation, great coverage and winter snow pack. Kind of the best of both worlds…sun, no wind and packed powder. Typical of the month of January in Mammoth – our next weather change is not until the end of the month so even Martin Luther King weekend is promising to be clear..

Chance of snow this weekend???

January 1st, 2009

Our local weather buff, Howard has a quick storm moving in for Friday night and Saturday bringing us up to 6 inches of fresh snow. Temps are supposed to change dramatically and drop down into the teens. Conditions are great all over the mountain and with cold temps at night -we anticipate lots of great skiing. Crowds will be gone on Sunday so if you do make it up you will have the mountain to yourself..
