Change is in the air!

September 29th, 2009

It feels like fall with a hint of early winter today in Mammoth – We are looking for cold temps, freezing at night and windy conditions for the next few days. It keeps us on our toes reminding us that winter is creeping up faster than we think. Our skis are in, boot reviews will be up at the end of the week and our bike shop is winding down. Great deals on the few bikes we have left and still plenty of great riding to be had.

Fall Century Update

September 10th, 2009

With over 420 riders preregistered, this weekend’s ride is promising to be one of the nicest we have had here. The weather forecast is calling for a low Friday night of 48, a high of 77 on Saturday with 5 mph winds. The winds will be a non issue for once. We hope to have over 700 riders throughout the course. Footloose is open until 9 pm Friday for registration pick up but we will be at the start finish area Saturday at 7 a.m. if you are arriving late. We are recommending Century riders are on the course between 7a.m. and 8 a.m. and all others by 10 a.m. We look forward to seeing you here!

Labor Day sales, Mountain bike racing, Tour of Mammoth Commuter Bike Challenge

September 3rd, 2009

Labor Day is here! The weather promises to be beautiful and thankfully the air is not too dense with smoke. Mountain bike racing has returned to Mammoth after a lengthy hiatus. Starting today-the 3rd-the California Golden State Mountain Bike Championships kicks off with a full calendar of mountain-wide racing. The series includes XC, DH, Mountain Cross and Super D for all classes and look out for high speed racing on the famed Kamikaze Downhill featuring some of mountain bike racings current best and many of the most durable legends-think Rogers, Cullinan, Herbold and thensome-duking it out for top spot. Race schedules and course maps are available at Footloose.

The Footloose Tour of Mammoth Commuter Bike Challenge ends on Monday the 7th. There is still an opportunity to win the grand prize-a commuter bike from Specialized. Come in to Footloose and register, pick up your ”passport” and take it to participating stores throughout Mammoth for special discounts, have it stamped and return it to Footloose that day to have a shot at winning.

For those in the market for a mountain bike and/or town bike our rental and demo fleet is aggressively priced to move. There are some great deals to be had. We will not “reserve” sale bikes-first come first served. The dirt riding is really good but some trails on Mammoth Mountain will be limited to participants in the race series. There is plenty of riding throughout the area though-if you’d like guidance come by Footloose.

The High Sierra Fall Century is September 12th. The course has one-count’em-stop sign and some of the most scenic riding in the state. The Fall Century has 6 well stocked rest stops, full SAG and a Bar-B-Que with refreshments at the finish. There are 30 and 48 mile options also. The Fall Century is a tour type event not a race so come join us!

Hiking is fantastic, bugs are largely a non-issue and the clouds that we see developing into the afternoons and evenings may produce a drop or two of rain but nothing significant. Enjoy your holiday weekend!
