It has been snowing in town since early this morning with about 6-8 inches in the Footloose parking lot. This looks to be a very serious storm with potential accumulation of 10-12 feet on the mountain and 4-6 feet in town. Definitely not a storm to take lightly. The storm should last through at least Monday and possibly through the first half of next week. I have been hearing it all day how good the snow was this morning and I am sure that is going to be the continued story for several days. We will try to keep you updated as the storm progresses. Happy holidays. Ho.Ho.Ho.

P.S. Ski with a partner and be safe. This is definitely classic Sierra cement.

The snow has finally stopped and it is a beautiful day today. All base lodges opened today with decent coverage after several days of storms. There are pockets of powder to still be had, but be careful the wind has scoured some areas and rocks are still very easy to find. Either way, great way to start the ski season and there will be plenty of terrain to ski over the holiday weekend. Here are a few pictures from today. Hope everyone has a happy holiday and a safe weekend.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up what the conditions are up here in Mammoth. Not a big reason to get fired up yet, but hopefully a sign of things to come this winter. It has been raining and snowing since about midday Saturday. Snowed in town last night, but it was barely cold enough for anything to stick. The mountain is covered with a few inches to about the bottom of Lincoln Mountain. It’s really early for anything to last, but the mountain biking is awesome with tacky trails and plenty of fall colors to look at. Attached are a few photos so you can see for yourself. Fall is here and with this weather it is just a reminder that the ski season will be here before you know it.

The snow is finally starting to clear off some of the lower bike trails around Mammoth Lakes. The Shady Rest/Knolls area is completely open as well as the Mammoth Rock Trail as of last week. The Mammoth Mountain bike park is opening today with approximately 9 trails cleared for riding. There is still quite a bit of snow still up towards main lodge, but trails such as Uptown, Lower Paper Route, Big Ring, Shotgun, and Juniper are incredibly buffed out. The trail crew at the bike park has done a great job at clearing and raking out the trails that are open. Good job guys! The weather has been great as of late and the days are long so hopefully mother nature will continue to cooperate and help open up some more riding trails soon. For those of you into road riding, the Eastside Velo Club will be having their annual Bridgeport ride on Sunday. For details on the Bridgeport ride check out their website at www.eastsidevelo.org. Whatever activity you have planned have a great weekend.

The skies opened up and snow started to fall around 1p.m. today. Forecasters are projecting the town of Mammoth will get another 1-2 feet tonight through tomorrow with another storm to follow in the next couple of days. The snow is falling straight down right now with hardly a hint of wind. With the few feet of fresh we got in the middle of the week and the projected storm for tonight the weekend should remain soft and powdery. So for those of you on the way up take it slow there will be plenty of snow for everyone this weekend. The way the pattern is setting up it is looking like March has the potential to be a very wet month. So for those of you who thought summer was right around the corner with such a dry February, it might be farther off than you thought. Winter is way to short anyway, even in the Eastern Sierra.
