Still snowing (day 3)

January 20th, 2010

It is still snowing fairly heavily at the moment.  The snow has been falling since Monday and the storm is supposed to be pretty intense tonight through tomorrow.  I was pleasantly surprised to find Chair 22 running at 8:30 this morning and hardly a soul around.  The skiing was unbelievably good, deep snow and very quiet.  I will try to update with some pictures later in the week.  Things are definitely looking pretty good around here.

The Storm Has Started…

January 18th, 2010

It started snowing in town early this morning.  Throughout the day it has picked up and we have about six inches in the Footloose parking lot.  It is absolutely beautiful when the snow is falling straight down.  Things should be pretty wet all week and we will keep you posted with the storm accumulations throughout the week.

Blue Skies, Great Snow..

December 23rd, 2009

The storm that passed through left us with another 8 inches of cold, dry snow. Temps are really cold overnight but are slowly warming throughout the day. Every run, every chair and lift will be open on both Mammoth and June – We really have not had such great conditions for Xmas since the early 90’s. Roads are clear for driving and our next little storm is forecast for the weekend..See you here!!

Bullseye!!

December 13th, 2009

Wow!!  What a weekend.  It has been snowing here in Mammoth since Thursday night and the snow sure has added up.  The storm has finally let up in town here at about 4 p.m. Sunday.  I got a few turns in on the hill today and what a different story it is up there.  I can happily say I actually didn’t hit any rocks or other hidden hazards.  In town over the weekend we had to get about 4-5 feet of snow and you can only imagine what the mountain could have accumulated.  This storm was perfect timing setting us up for the holidays and definitely a bullseye for the central sierra.  I talked to friends in June Lake today and it sounds like the snow is piling up in the Loop as well.  This is great for them and hopefully June will be open next weekend.  I don’t know the schedule for opening Canyon Lodge and Little Eagle but with the amount of snow that has fallen I would bet Canyon and Little Eagle would be open in a few days after the grooming crew and ski patrol has cleaned things up.  Stay tuned as soon as we know more about what’s opening we will keep you informed.  If you are in town keep your fingers crossed for a bluebird day tomorrow or at least for some new terrain to be opened.  See you out there tomorrow bright and early.

weekend storm on the way

December 11th, 2009

It started snowing late last night with an accumulation of 4-6″ in town (8″+ on the hill) by the morning.  We are expecting unsettled weather with up to 5 feet over the crest by the end of the weekend.  Just what we need to get the rest of the mountain open.  The terrain that has been open on the mountain has been fun with great carvable wind packed snow.  Chair 10 opened earlier in the week expanding the available terrain.  Keep your fingers crossed that these storms will set us up for a great holiday.  Stay tuned we will keep you informed on the ongoing storms progress.  Yay, winter is here!

Skiing suprisingly good!

November 23rd, 2009

Well the natural snow has really helped us out – conditions are great – Chairs 1,2,3,6 and 11 and the gondola are all in full operation. This is where Mammoth sets itself apart from other resorts – simply by its elevation and great snowmaking. The forecast for the week is clear but continued cold at night so they have been making as much as they can. Temps in town are warm but still cold up top so we are not losing any snow. Definitely worth a few turns to get your ski legs going!

Good to be Skiing

November 10th, 2009

Mammoth Mountain is doing a great job of keeping conditions very good. After two weeks of warm weather, I was amazed to hear the mountain was going to open. When I arrived on opening day, my friends and I were stoked to see good snow coverage on the open runs. We got to ski chairs 1,3, and Gondola 2. Awesome to get 2000 vertical feet in one run. Everyday gets a little better with the snowmakers doing a great job. I can’t wait to go again tomorrow. A storm should be coming in on Thursday. Pray for snow.

Opening day Nov. 7th 2009

November 8th, 2009

Another beautiful day in Mammoth Lakes, and the mountain is now open for sliding the planks.  9 AM start out of the locker room, straight to the slopes.  The snow that we received, almost a month ago now, its still holding well mid-mountain and above.  With the hard working snow-farmers creating access to the lower hill.  The mountain is in very good shape on the main runs, and the top is open!  The mountain is running chair 1,3 and gondola’s 1and 2.  The snow is hard-pack but very fun and fast.  If you are an enthusiast and love the snow, in need of a sliding fix.  The skiing is really good and fun for early November.
