Mammoth Mountain Opening !!

November 3rd, 2009

November 7th is the new ‘official’ date for the mountain opener – conditions on the upper mountain look pretty good so if we get the cold weather we are expecting over the weekend – snowmaking should take care of the lower mountain. We will send an update as soon as someone has been up to ski or ride..

Student passes are also available for $399 so with the early season opening you can get your value out of this pass before Thanksgiving!! over 3000 free tickets given out yesterday – with Chair 1, 3 and 23 operating. It did freeze up on the mountain last night so conditions should hold up with the forecast of some cooler weather on the horizon.

Fall is here and winter is fast approaching

October 12th, 2009

Fall is definitely here in the Eastern Sierra.  The trees are changing colors and the summer crowds are gone.  Fall is a great time of year if you like beautiful scenery and solitude.  The fall colors are peaking right now and it is a great time to hit the trails.  We did get the first snow of the season on the 4th of October and this week should follow up with an even bigger storm.  We got about 6 inches on the 4th and forecasters are calling for multiple feet this week.  The storm should be a warm one with high snow levels and hopefully sierra cement to give us a good starting base.  Stay tuned to upcoming blogs.  The snow is expected to start tomorrow and with a big storm the mountain might open before the projected starting date.  Attached are a few fall pictures from Reds Meadow area as well as Rock Creek.  Enjoy.

Change is in the air!

September 29th, 2009

It feels like fall with a hint of early winter today in Mammoth – We are looking for cold temps, freezing at night and windy conditions for the next few days. It keeps us on our toes reminding us that winter is creeping up faster than we think. Our skis are in, boot reviews will be up at the end of the week and our bike shop is winding down. Great deals on the few bikes we have left and still plenty of great riding to be had.

Summer has finally arrived!

June 23rd, 2009

The rain has been great for the trails but we are stoked to see the sun and the long term weather change. Summer has finally arrived – the bike park has all of the lower trails open with some awesome riding conditions. The hiking out of McGee, Reds Meadow  and Rock Creek has cleared and most of the trails in the upper lakes basin are open with some snow patches. The ideal family hike is around Convict Lake right now. It takes about an hour and is a well worn trail that skirts around the lake.

This weekend is Moto-X out at the Sherwin’s so a great time to head to the bike park and miss the crowds. Almost all of us have been out either hiking orriding and can you give any updates when you call.

Corn

May 13th, 2009

Mammoth in spring is the best kept secret in the world. I skied on Tuesday from about 10:00 until 1:00 in the PM. It was hours of epic corn skiing. We were doing lines down Christmas bowl to Coyote and then to chair 2…traversing over to chair 5 and skiing the face. If ever there was such a thing as too much fun…
