May 11th and we skied POWDER…May 13th, 2010Spring has been unseasonably cool which has most of us pining for warm-consistently warm-weather. But for winter diehards the conditions have been remarkably conducive to skiing. May 11th dawned with a winter storm creeping eastward after dropping a foot and a half on the mountain leaving spotty clouds and morning temperatures in the low 20’s. Skiing was UN-believable…knee deep or better in the Paranoids and consistent into Saint Anton. Run after run. Pure winter snow until late in the afternoon. Upper Dry Creek, Dave’s, Climax…whew! How many ski areas can claim great powder days in May? Only one that I can think of…Mammoth Mountain! Spring in Mammoth!April 19th, 2010Just when we pulled out the sunscreen, another storm is approaching us on Tuesday with potential of 1-2 feet! But rest assured we will be returning to warm temps and great spring skiing by Thursday. We can’t remember when Mammoth had as much snow as it does right now at this time of year. Skiing until July 4th?? with such a great snowpack. |
